Vince Perone Classic- FFPA Golf Tournament

Held in May every year, the Vince Perone Classic-FFPA Golf Tournament raises money for the FFPA. It is the biggest single fundraiser and social outing for the FFPA.  The events begin on the Friday before the tournament with a social held in downtown Greenville. The social, which includes dinner and an auction, annually brings out about 150 to 200 people.

The golf tournament is held at the Furman University Golf Course and starts on Saturday morning. There are 2 flights, one at 8:00 and the second at 1:30 with lunch in between. Awards are given for several categories. Close to 200 golfers (we chose that word liberally) turn out for the event.

In 2003 the golf tournament was named The Vince Perone Classic, in honor of a man that was a community leader, a former player and coach, a mentor to many Furman athletes, and Furman Football’s most avid supporter. Vince passed away in October 2003, but his legacy of providing financial and moral support to Furman Football lives on.  He believed that you could take an average athlete that possessed an over-achieving attitude and great work-ethic and make him and the football program a winner.
