The Furman Football Players Association (FFPA) was established in 2000 by former Head Coach Bobby Johnson.  It was designed to create a formal social network for former players, to provide an employment network for former and newly- graduating players, and to provide financial support for the needs of the football program.  These needs have included upgrading the practice fields, audiovisual equipment, computers, recruiting expenses and various other financial obligations that the general operating funds of the athletic department did not fully cover.

In 2003 the golf tournament was named The Vince Perone Classic, in honor of a man that was a community leader, a former player and coach, a mentor to many Furman athletes, and Furman Football’s most avid supporter. Vince passed away in October 2003, but his legacy of providing financial and moral support to Furman Football lives on.  He believed that you could take an average athlete that possessed an over-achieving attitude and great work-ethic and make him and the football program a winner.  Furman Football has continually created a first-class team on the field, and, more importantly, first-class citizens off the field.  With a membership of over 300, the FFPA has many people from different backgrounds but one common desire: to continue the tradition of one of the best academic & athletic football programs in the country.
 
The fiscal year for FFPA membership runs September 1 to August 31. The minimum donation is $75 per year (but more will be accepted) and can be paid by check (payable to Furman University) or credit card.
